So, a couple of years ago for Christmas at Revolution we wanted to basically turn our meeting space into an incredibly immersive night sky including planets, galaxies and stars. How did we end up doing it? Over 8,000 Christmas twinkle lights taped to the walls behind a sheer black fabric that covered every wall in the building. Actually worked out pretty darn cool, but the work was pretty ridiculous.
Looking back, I wish we would have had these. I'm posting this as my first post joining in Creative Chaos at Ragamuffin Soul. I feel kinda lame because it isn't something we have done or can speak super knowledgeably about, but I would imagine it could be helpful to many of us in the future.
Stars A friend I made here in Santa Cruz through a company we've been using for stage stuff at our church recently started his own company. His name in Kenny Green (that's right friends...Kenny G) and his business is LUMINA. They sell and rent lasers. Kenny moved to Santa Cruz a few years ago to be a part of planting a church and I had a chance to sit down with him several weeks ago over coffee and hear more about how God led him into this business. It's a pretty cool story. And the lasers sounded pretty sweet, too. Would have been way easier to just use those things to project thousands of stars around the room for the effect we wanted to create!
He sells and rents the lights for special events. Maybe one of these days we can work out the time to do a demo for something and I can let you know how it goes. In the meantime, if you're ever doing anything similar, or want to really spruce up a youth room, outdoor architecture or whatever other creative use you can think of for lasers, check him out and let us know what you think!
Tell him I sent you over and I'm sure he'll hook ya up too! Right Kenny?! ;)
Last Night we had a great time at Elevation. Kenny Green and his crew from LUMINA Lighting blessed us by bringing over some wild lasers and foggers and turned our worship space into a unique place to hang out with Jesus. Kenny you rock buddy thanks!
The room was alive with lasers, extra l.e.d. lighting, mucho fog and the people were alive with interactive worship: dropping sin stones in water, writing words of thanks on the video screens, taking communion, meeting with the prayer team to share needs and reading Psalms into a live mic over a warm sonic backdrop. Omar and the band led us into everything from loud rocking songs (watching about 120 people physically spin around during Marvelous Light is something to see) to gentle reflective pieces like Heart of Worship. As usual, a ton of us mobbed Woodstock Pizza for community afterwards.
We had the most beautiful wedding Saturday in Pebble Beach. The site was a private Country Club. The colors were shades of yellow, white, cream and champagne with gold accents. Truly a luscious and close to my heart color pallet. Our biggest obstacle was how dark the ballroom was. There were large vintage wrought iron chandeliers, but not much else in the lighting department. Solution- Candles! We used over 300 votives, plus over a 100 pillar candels in class cylinder's of various heights on the tables, the fireplace, and the lounge space around the dance floor. We also added small twinkle lights to the balcony overhead where the Bride and Groom shared their first dance, as well as tossed the bouquet and Garter. In addition we used some LED can uplights to spice up the dance floor/ lounge area (provided by DJ Raffi from Sound in Motion), and a gobo projected the couples new Monogram on the dance floor(provided by Lumina out of Aptos, CA). The result of all this lighting was magical. All the lighting costs came in under $1000, but made such an impact! It was the most romantic room we have ever set up, the crystals scattered on the tables between the candles glittering underneath huge tulip vases of Lacey white hydrangeas. Stunning! So ladies, DON'T FORGET THE LIGHTING!!!!!!
